What Is Long Term Care?
Long-term care (LTC) refers to services that help individuals with their daily activities over an extended period. These activities, known as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), include tasks such as grooming, getting out of bed, and feeding yourself. When someone can no longer perform two or more ADLs independently, they typically qualify for benefits.
A long-term care policy specifically covers these needs. Unlike Medicare, which doesn’t cover long-term care, a separate LTC policy is required to ensure you receive the necessary support.
Why is this kind of care Important?
The cost of this care is often much higher than expected. Even those who purchased LTC policies decades ago may find that their coverage is insufficient to meet today’s costs. This financial strain can significantly burden families trying to care for their loved ones.
Additionally, it’s important to consider the quality of life for seniors. Families usually prefer to keep their loved ones in supportive and comfortable environments, such as their own homes, rather than placing them in rest homes.
